   100 SPECIES PHOTOGRAPHY SAFARI

Days 1-2. Your photographic safari begins in the mysterious slopes of the Sumaco volcano. This largely unexplored Amazonian volcano is a quarry for new species of amphibians and reptiles. Also, it is home to rare and marvelous gems of the cloudforest, such as the Andean Forest-Pitviper (Bothriopsis pulchra) and the elusive Sumaco Plump-Toad (Osornophryne sumacoensis).

Days 3-6. For four days, you will get to photograph the best of the mighty Amazon, and not just any part of it. You will visit the upper Amazon basin, which is regarded as the single most biodiverse region on the planet. This is the land of treefrogs, poison frogs, vipers, and almost any imaginable species of amphibian or reptile. Glorious examples of what to expect here are the Rainbow Boa (Epicrates cenchria) and the Amazonian Poison-Frog (Ranitomeya ventrimaculata).

Day 7. Intermediate stop at the slopes of Sumaco.

Days 8-9. No other region in Ecuador is surrounded by more mysticism than the cloudforest. In this region, you will get to photograph some of Ecuador's rarest species of amphibians and reptiles. During a two-day visit, you will have good chances of creating images of animals few other humans have seen or even heard of. Examples are the Pinocchio Anole (Anolis proboscis) and the Bumpy Glassfrog (Centrolene heloderma).

Days 10-12. Photographing the Chocoan herpetofauna will be the icing on the cake for your photo safari. From the moment you set foot in the lodge, anoles, geckos, treefrogs and snakes will greet you. Then, as you explore the rainforest during the final three days of the trip, you will create the most stunning close-up pictures of poison frogs, boas and vipers. Highlights for this part of the trip are the Little-Devil Poison-Frog (Oophaga sylvatica) and the Eyelash Palm-Pitviper (Bothriechis schlegelii).

Day 13. Intermediate stop at the cloudforest, Mindo.
