MADAGASCAR

Madagascar is a veritable paradise for nature lovers.

Located off the southeastern coast of Africa, Madagascar is famous for its diverse range of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic to the island. There are a number of National Parks that are perfect settings for discovering these species, especially the variety of Lemurs and birds found here.  The beautiful waters surrounding the island provide the option to whale-watch, as well as go fishing or surfing.

This magical island is quite unique: unmade roads, and resorts only accessible by private plane or boat, vast stretches of coastline, 450kms of barrier reef, 250 offshore islands, and National Parks that only see 100+ visitors a year.  ...Madagascar offers a challenging yet highly rewarding  "back to nature" experience.

Madagascar is, without doubt, one of the world's standout wildlife destinations and is regularly in our top 3 sellers, along with Costa Rica and Ecuador/Galapagos.  Stroll in forests amidst lemurs, orchids, chameleons, baobabs, mongooses, and all manner of fascinating insects. Marvel at the relics of flora and fauna that date back to the age of the dinosaur. Dive amongst underwater cathedrals and shipwrecks, turtles, and humpback whales.  Walk the moonscape of the Isalo National Park, the sacred burial ground of the Bara tribe, and attend one of their ceremonies for a holiday to remember.

  • Seasons
There are only two seasons in Madagascar: dry and wet seasons.  The wet season lasts in most areas 5 months, from December to April.  In Eastern Madagascar, it rains quite often all year long whereas it rarely rains in western Madagascar.

  • Winter Nights
In the central parts of Madagascar, winter nights are so cold that the temperature may go down to +5°C.  It may even go down to around freezing point in Antsirabe - thus warm clothes if you travel from May- Sept.

  • When To Visit?
Overall, Madagascar is best experienced between the cool months of April and December.  These months are safe from cyclones and are cooler in temperature.   July and August are considered as "peak season", with more tourists than usual.
