   GREEN HILLS AND ANCIENT ROADS

Discover the north of Thailand that is blessed with hilly national parks, hot springs, ancient and remarkable temples, breezy night markets, and typical food. The slow pace lasts during the pleasant onward journey into Laos.

TRAVEL DATES:

Day 01: Bangkok Arrival

Warm welcome by a local Thai guide upon arrival at the airport.

Day 02: Bangkok

Clients are brought to the town of Maeklong; home to the famous train market. The municipality also offers a cruise through mangrove forests, seashell farms, and panoramic views from Kateng (wooden huts on stilts above the sea). We cycle through fruit orchards and visit historical sites like Wat Bang Kung.

Day 03: Bangkok – Chiang Mai

Fly to the old capital of the Lanna Kingdom, climb the staircase to Wat Doi Suthep, and enjoy a typical Kantoke dinner in an open-air Thai pavilion with the locals. In the evening, stroll around the night market, which has its origins from the Yunnanese trading caravans.

Day 04: Chiang Mai

A full day to experience all that the lush green Chiang Dao hills have on offer. Go for a relaxing bamboo rafting experience, visit a Karen hill tribe village, and learn how elephants used to be trained to work in the logging industry.

Day 05: Chiang Mai – Fang

Embark on a journey to the far north: visiting a vast network of caves and kicking back in a hot spring – very good for skin, muscles, and joints. Reach Fang after about 4 hours driving.

Day 06: Fang

Head into the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park for a day of trekking and enjoying more of the hot springs. It's possible to even get involved in some bird watching; the area is part of the North/South migration route for birds.

Day 07: Fang – Chiang Rai

Continue the routing to Chiang Rai, on the way there is the opportunity to visit the unique Wat Rong Khun, or White Temple – find out why it carries this nickname. Visit the mysterious Baan Dam (Black House).

Day 08: Chiang Rai – Chiang Sean

Transfer by VIP Elephant Transfer to the luxury lodging set amid acres of bamboo forest, beautifully landscaped gardens, and lush mountainside jungle. Learn to ride an elephant, or take a boat trip to the Golden Triangle.

Day 09: Chiang Sean

Spend the day partaking in the many activities possible: soak up the natural beauty of Chiang Rai, shop in three different countries, visit hill-tribe villages, speed down the Mekong in a longtail boat, or lumber through the jungle on elephant back.

Day 10: Chiang Sean – Chiang Khong

This quiet town affords spectacular views over the Mekong peering into Laos on the other side.

Day 11: Chiang Khong – Laos

Take a short boat ride to reach Houay Xai in Laos. From here it's possible to take on a multiple day slow boat ride to Luang Prabang, or a car for first explorations of northern Laos.
